Dr. Macwan is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in both Neurology and Neuromuscular Medicine. He is on the medical staff at Eisenhower Health and served as section chief of Neurology from 2012 through 2015. He has also contributed to physician education by teaching internal medicine residents, family medicine residents, and sports medicine fellows at Eisenhower Health. His academic involvement has included serving as a neuromuscular site director for the neurology residency at the California University of Science and Medicine.
Dr. Macwan evaluates patients who already have a neuromuscular diagnosis as well as those experiencing unexplained weakness, numbness, tingling, burning pain, muscle fatigue, twitching, drooping eyelids, walking difficulty, or changes in swallowing and speech.

Advanced Training in Neurology and Neuromuscular Medicine
Before completing his Internal Medicine internship through New York Medical College, Dr. Macwan completed a research fellowship in Headache and Cranial Neuralgia at the University of Southern California.
He completed his Neurology residency and Neuromuscular Medicine fellowship at the University of Kansas Medical Center, where he trained under internationally recognized neuromuscular specialist Dr. Richard Barohn.
That training supports a diagnosis-first approach to symptoms that may arise from peripheral nerves, muscles, nerve roots, motor neurons, or the neuromuscular junction. Depending on the clinical concern, evaluation may include a neurologic examination, EMG/NCS testing, skin biopsy, laboratory testing, imaging review, or condition-specific testing.
Dr. Macwan is also professionally trained in botulinum toxin injections for limb spasticity, cervical and focal dystonias, chronic migraine, sialorrhea, and facial spasm.
Research-Connected Care for Neuromuscular Conditions
Dr. Macwan has been involved in research related to Myasthenia Gravis, CIDP, Multifocal Motor Neuropathy, and Inflammatory Myositis. He has served as Principal Investigator for ongoing and completed studies involving generalized Myasthenia Gravis, inflammatory myopathy, CIDP, MMN, IVIG, complement-inhibiting therapies, and other neuromuscular treatments.
His Myasthenia Gravis involvement extends beyond clinical care. He has spoken at national meetings of the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America, participated in MG support groups for patients and caregivers, and served on the advisory board of the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of California.
